Nomar retires in a Red Sox uniform

Today Nomar Garciaparra signed a one day contract to retire as a Red Sox player.
“After years of enjoying the privilege of playing this great game wearing Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, and A’s jerseys in front of truly amazing fans, today I’ve decided to end my playing days,”
“It wouldn’t have felt like a retirement if I couldn’t have put this uniform on one more time.”
Garciaparra exits with a .313 career batting average, with 229 homers, 936 RBIs and six All-Star game selections. He led the American League in hitting twice, in 1999 and 2000.

Dominic DiMaggio dies at 92

Dominic DiMaggio, the Boston Red Sox center fielder whose career was overshadowed by his older brother Joe’s Hall of Fame career with the New York Yankees, has died at his Massachusetts home around 1am this morning. He was 92.
DiMaggio was a seven-time All Star who still holds the record for the longest consecutive game hitting streak in Boston Red Sox history.
Dom DiMaggio spent his entire career with the Red Sox, 10 full seasons plus three games in 1953, and was teammates and close friends with Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr and Johnny Pesky.
