Angry Guy: Warriors!

We need to get rid of the term “Warrior” in sports! If I hear another sportscaster call a professional athlete a WARRIOR I’m going to go postal! Because there is nothing more unlike a warrior than a multimillion dollar athlete playing with a fucking boo boo! Are you fucking kidding me! The warriors are across the ocean in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting terrorists and getting shot at every day! Think about this, a football player is playing with a bad hammy compared to a solider that is dodging enemy fire to drag a wounded soldier to safety. No fucking contest! The men and women of our armed forces are WARRIORS period! The only athletes that should be allowed to call themselves warriors are Gladiators! Those mother fuckers WERE warriors. Think about this, an athlete hurts his legs and goes out of the game. If a solider is shot in the leg do you think he can just call time out and walk out of the battlefield and sit on a bench? NO FUCKING WAY! They battle on like the true warriors they are risking their lives every second of the day. All of these prima donna athletes get to play these games and make all their money because of the true warriors that protect all of us and let them.

I have several friends that fought in both Gulf wars and Afghanistan and THANK FUCKING GOD they all made it back. One friend just re-enlisted for 3 more years. Kind of like an athlete signing a contract extension. NOT!!

So the next time you’re out and about and see a man or woman in uniform thank them. The next time you’re at a bar and hear someone call an athlete a warrior you need to finish your beer (Never waste beer, MAN RULE # 3) flip it upside down and smash the bottle across the face of the fucking moron that said it! Then call them a warrior as they are helped into the ambulance. Thank you to all our men and woman in our armed forces we all owe more than even we know. THANKS !

Can’t say I agree with you Angry Guy on this one. Yeah the people who serve in our armed forces are TRUE WARRIORS and there is NO question about that at all.

UFC/Boxing ARE our modern day gladiators/warriors. Not to mention football players, hockey players and rugby players, mudders, Iron Man, Ididaride, and many of the extreme races, endurance games, are also true tests of a “warrior spirit”. Granted a baseball player who is making $4,000,000 a year playing with a cold isn’t a warrior, but you are painting with a WAY too large of a brush.

If you don’t see the warrior in something like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0gKFvWWyRE
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAmjnjNesng&feature=related

Than you are just armchair quarterbacking.

Stories of football players winning championships with broken wrists, fingers, ankles, noses, etc. Not all players are playing with million dollar contracts either. Again UFC fighters, linemen, hockey players, etc. Not to mention the guys in the lower ranks/amateurs, and farm players. I would also venture to say that if you get injured in the line of duty you are also going to be taken off the front lines and shipped off to recover and not have to “go out and win the Super Bowl on a broken foot”.

It’s easy to sit at home and watch shit on TV and say “whatever they aren’t true warriors, but this other group is”. When in reality some of the players in professional sports are pretty fuckin’ hardcore warriors.

I would venture to say that the people of the armed forces are total warriors because it takes MASSIVE balls and courage to battle in a war zone knowing at any moment you could get killed. This is a courage that I am glad I don’t have to muster up. But just because people aren’t shooting back doesn’t negate the fact that there are MANY sports and athletes who are also true warriors.

I hate to bite the hand that doesn’t feed me but I could not disagree more. “Warrior Spirit” and a true Warrior couldn’t be further apart.

    war·ri·or   /ˈwɔriər, ˈwɔryər, ˈwɒriər, ˈwɒryər/ Show Spelled[wawr-ee-er, wawr-yer, wor-ee-er, wor-yer] Show IPA
    noun
    1. a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier.

    ath·lete   /ˈæθlit/ Show Spelled[ath-leet] Show IPA
    noun
a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill.

    NO FUCKING CONTEST!!!!!!

Warriors are not in it for the money. There isn’t a minor league for soldiers. Athlete’s are hardcore but they are only that, athletes. I may sit on my couch and pass judgement but I can’t remember the last hockey game where anyone died because their team lost. Or if a MMA fighters entire crew was gunned down because he lost a fight. An yes wounded soldiers are taken off the battlefield and get a chance to heal but they have to survive the battle first!!

Athelte’s, civil service workers, and others exhibit courage most of us don’t but Warrior should be saved for those that take part in WAR, not games! ;(

Ok if we are only going to show half definitions to make our point than you might be right…. But lets dive a little deeper:

    Dictionary.com
    war·ri·or   [wawr-ee-er, wawr-yer, wor-ee-er, wor-yer] Show IPA
    noun
    1. a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier.
    2. a person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics.

Kind of blows your point if you don’t add in #2 because by definition even a politician can be considered a warrior.

    Google definition:
    war·ri·or/ˈwôrēər/
    Noun:
(esp. in former times) A brave or experienced soldier or fighter.

OR fighter so a fighter would be a “warrior” by definition alone.

    The definition for solider:

    sol·dier   [sohl-jer] Show IPA
    noun
    1. a person who serves in an army; a person engaged in military service.
    2. an enlisted man or woman, as distinguished from a commissioned officer
    3. a person of military skill or experience
    4. a person who contends or serves in any cause

There is no better description of someone who gives their life for our freedom than “soldier”. It demands respect war time or not. Being a warrior may be part of what makes a good solider, but not all soldiers are warriors.

And not to break your bubble but there are minor leagues for soldiers. I was one, I joined, served my time and far from a warrior and wouldn’t consider myself a warrior just because I happened to wear the same uniform as the men and women fighting for our freedoms. There are many enlisted people that just because they have served their time are NOT warriors. It’s a blanket statement just as in saying “just because your not risking your life you are not a warrior’. Yes when I signed up I knew there was a risk to get shipped out (National Guard or not) but doesn’t make me any more of a warrior than someone who goes out and gets his head kicked in fighting in bars trying to make it to the UFC or the 75 year old man who competes his first Iron Man in Kona.

The risk of death and bullets doesn’t make a warrior a warrior. It’s the courage, heart, guts, and vigor to overcome something that most people can’t.

    Btw…….

    You’re fired! ;)
