If you don’t know what H.R.3261 is it’s also known as SOPA or the Stop Online Privacy Act. Your generic Wiki version can be found: HERE.
Now that you glossed over that with that glazed look in your eyes, here this is the MONEY TRAIL list (a LOT of money changing hands here isn’t there). Though we know what most people/media call this list, it’s known as the “supporters and opposition”. Hmmmmmm… Makes me think what would one gain for all their money spent? Though that’s a post for another day. Again I don’t trust one name on this list. Just because Facebook is fun I could give a fuck less if they support it or not. If you think Facebook has anything less to gain from this NOT passing as Viacom does if it DOES pass then you are a naive moron.
My first uneducated statement is going to be “I don’t care”. Yup, that’s my new thing for 2012. I don’t give a fuck anymore. I’m done. I’m all set with the lies and the bullshit from both sides. Facebook, Democrats, AFL-CIO, Republicans, Nike, Google, the whole lot of em, they don’t give a shit about me. Don’t sit there and preach to me that Apple cares about me as a human and the earth. Yes as a consumer but not as a human. Slave labor and baiting the hard working american people telling them they NEED and HAVE TO HAVE a new $200-600 phone because it has an S in the name and can talk to you when most people are actually struggling to find work. Again more info for another post.
One thing I have noticed about this debate is a lot of fear mongering and hysteria. It kind of reminds me of the gay marriage debate. “OMG if we allow this to pass it will ruin the sanctity of marriage and new thing you know people will want to be marrying penguins and desk lamps” I get that same “wow that’s quite a leap” feeling when I hear people saying “Omg if this passes there will be no more internet!!! Run for the hills”.
I really don’t think the world is out to stop you from lip-syncing and if they are find someone who doesn’t. I had my brother whip me up a sick intro for WinkyFace videos for that reason alone. I don’t want to use AC/DC and one day and have someone say “sorry you have to remove that song or we will take down the video” and have to go through the pain in the ass of remaking the video. I’m not that skilled, don’t have backups and for me, most of my videos are one shot deals and I’m surprised I can even make em in the first place.
Artists and companies will quickly notice sales going down when all references are taken down on the net. The all mighty dollar rules and I find a LOT of my music that way and buy it after hearing it on someones intro/outro or background music. Once those dollars stop rolling in they will soon change their minds.
Right now the internet has free reign. Lawless, free, no regulations, no rules, bla bla bla. You get that part, but is that the part that makes the internet what it is? I would argue “no”. Having access to free copyrighted information isn’t what makes the internet what it is. It’s access to information and the connection it helps us make to each other around the world. It’s not about being able to download the latest movie before it comes out on DVD.
Next I know I’m probably in the minority but fuck, I always am. I really don’t give a shit if the video of your little kid dancing and pretending to sing to whatever crap Katy Perry spits out of her mouth gets taken down. It’s not your song and while you think it’s cute it’s not something that I think makes the internet great. You want to impress me with your kid? Have her sing her own song and not lip-sync. It’s a stupid fad and anything I can do to stop that is good enough for me now that I think about it. If I make a Hollywood movie and want to use Van Halen in the soundtrack I need to pay Van Halen for the use of that music. If YouTube wants to make money off my video (which in turn has Van Halen in the background) then they should pay if Van Halen wants them to, if not then YouTube should take down my video. As harsh as that sounds to you morons that’s the facts of life. Cry me a river because I don’t give a fuck that you posted a Van Halen song without permission and now have to re-edit your video.
Now let me explain something to you. Just because you “think” it should be free doesn’t mean it should be free. Use all your excuses. If big named musicians didn’t make CDs with 8 shitty songs and 2 good songs I would pay, if they didn’t charge me $200 to see them live then I would buy the CDs but I see them every time they come here so why should I have to pay for their music. If I buy it on CD why should I be required to buy it for my iPod. I already own the movie on DVD I’m just downloading it to have it on my computer archive. Do you people even listen to yourselves talk? First we all know that ALL OF THAT is bullshit. You don’t download just the songs/movies you previously purchased. If that was the case then there wouldn’t be a problem. The MPAA and RIAA wouldn’t have lost billions over the years if “you already own it in some media form or another”. Stop with your self-righteous bullshit.
So because I buy a shit ton of milk a year I have the right to walk in the supermarket from time to time to grab a little pint and walk out. I’ve supported milk for 38 years and I already have a gallon in my fridge so it’s just a copy in a more portable version of something I bought yesterday, why should I have to buy more? It’s milks fault for not making my gallon more portable when I need to drink it on the go.
And the whole 8 songs suck 2 are good, well thanks to Amazon and iTunes you can now just buy those two songs and if it’s “album only” sorry. Again just because you think you deserve a trophy doesn’t mean you can have it. Same goes for movies. Just because you paid $12 to see it opening night and it sucked doesn’t give you the right to download it a few weeks later or sit on your ass waiting for the second one to come out justifying it by saying “the first one sucked so I’m not giving them another $$ and just going to download part two when it comes out”. That doesn’t make sense, yet it’s some twisted rationalization we all have tried. No one is forcing you to watch this movie. If you do or if you don’t makes no difference at all. If you want to see it either buy a ticket, rent the DVD, OnDemand it, Netflix it, AppleTV it, HULU it, wait till its on HBO or on commercial TV. We need to stop with the mentality that because we purchased Beverly Hills Cop on VHS in 1985 that it gives you the right to the DVD or digital version for free.
I’m not going to get in to this part too much and about to wrap this up but with all the options out there to get your copyrighted content it’s really a shame that people still pirate shit. When you can rent a movie on OnDemand or AppleTV for $4 or have an unlimited service like Netflix for $10 a month and songs are $0.69 – $1.29 each you really have to be a douche to pirate still. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spent $3.99 to rent a movie because I was too damn lazy to walk down stairs and get the DVD or bought a song for $0.99 because I was too lazy to import the CD in to iTunes and wasn’t even sure where the CD was. There is no valid justification for pirating software, movies, music, or whatever. My time is money and fucking around on some shitty P2P app hunting for the song, hoping it’s not corrupt, that the tags are correct and all that bullshit doesn’t get me excited anymore. It’s a lot easier to log on to Amazon or iTunes and just DL the legit song.
Now I’m not sitting here saying that all 8000 of my songs on my iTunes were purchased and that I’ve never done it. Hell I was a pirate back in the BBS days and had thousands of titles of software, music and movies. Doesn’t mean that it was right and I wasn’t a part of the problem. I openly admit I was. Though now that I’m older, have seen the direct effect on my family, the industry in general, I decided years ago to stop. I occasionally catch myself still doing it from time to time but realize that I am not fighting for a good cause when I do it. I’m not being all high and mighty and fighting for the freedom of the internet. I’m excited to see a movie that’s not on DVD yet. I am doing it for a selfish reason. It’s not money, it’s not the principle, it’s not the convince (because as I said it’s easier to just wait and click a single button to watch it), I do it for no other reason then the rush and excitement of seeing some shitty movie I know I’ll prob not be motivated to watch when it comes to OnDemand (or want to pay for it) or by the time it’s free on Netflix streaming I’ll have lost interest. I’m not saying it’s right but at least I admit why I’m doing it and not standing on some soap box patting myself on the back and justifying my reasons. It’s wrong and I shouldn’t do it. Make my access to it harder and I wouldn’t even bother. So yeah please spare us with your hollow reasons on why you do it, we all know it’s prob the same reason I tend to do it.
Now I’m not saying H.R.3261 is the answer and I’m not supporting it or against it, but what I am saying is that maybe we need to stop hitting the panic button, realize that both sides have an agenda, and once again NEITHER side really gives a fuck about you or me. Copyright issues are a HUGE problem. Stopping copyright infringement isn’t censoring the internet. Me saying “Fuck Politics” and me downloading a song are two separate issues. Dancing around like a jackass on YouTube lip-syncing to Lady Gaga isn’t free speech. Stop butchering the Constitution when clearly you have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

Hmm, did I just link to an offending site on the internet? Damn, seems winkyface is completely sueable now.
Oh wait, SOPA didn’t pass yet, thank god.
Well, here’s more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLYgs0xMDm0&feature=related
See that’s exactly my point, more irrational fear and not really accurate. First I’m housed in the US, second they aren’t just going to “shut down” the offending sites, you’ll have a chance to remove the copyright material (just like what is done with YouTube currently). I also don’t host any copyright shit. I’m not worried about WinkyFace getting shut down. They aren’t looking in to shutting down blogs, and the occasional slip up or, they are looking to stop things like PirateBay and WaReZ type sites and we all know that. Yes the MPAA and RIAA sucks and wants every penny they can grab but they aren’t suing people for posting the stuff they are making them take it down. Back to my point, it’s not your music so I really don’t see a problem with your dancing baby not being posted on YouTube.
Because I post a link to something copyrighted HOSTED somewhere else doesn’t even come close to the intent of this. They aren’t going to storm in and shut my site down because of a single link or mention. It’s more in depth then that.
And again I don’t support or oppose this bill and playing devils advocate because to me it seems like the “hipster” thing is to hate this bill because of cute YouTube videos, the “cool net geeks” say it’s bad. It’s one of those issues where a few people made up their minds if its good or bad and the rest are just parroting what they heard.
Fuck it, I’m off to download Iron Man 3 and marry a goat, be back later……..
I don’t like the fact that filesonic dot com (resolving to hong kong) is housing my music catalog for free including the new stuff, with the torrents being linked at hotfilesearch dot com (resolving to florida) coved with pay per clicks ads and easily found on google. They are stealing my livelyhood. STOP THE PIRATES
I also hate the gvt. I say they should all fuck off and stop regulating everything. Bit my point it most people’s arguments are weak.
I don’t copy anyone’s music, video, etc. I buy it & pay for it, expect my family to do the same.
Hey, Aaron, go fuck yourself!
I don’t download anything illegally, but if I wanted to, I would. After years of buying absolute shit from many “entertainers.” including your dad’s band, I deserve a few free songs or movies!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to return the piece of shit CD I purchased … even if it contained NO quality! Maybe I sue the dumb-fucks running RIAA for claiming some of these tracks are worth thousands of dollars, when in fact, I should have been paid to listen to some of shit I have been subjected to.
So, in the essence of the good-natured holiday season, happy holidays, happy birthday, and shut your sanctimonious pie-hole, fuck-face!
Jeff Hamilton
Oh, the greatest birthday gift ever, a douche who comes to my site and wants to go blabbing his mouth.
First, do you know how much of a little baby you sound like? Cry me a river “I deserve a few free songs or movies”? Are you serious? No one is making you buy the “absolute shit” music or see the shitty movies. That’s your choice. If you don’t like the CD don’t buy the second one. Plain and simple. And yeah I’m sure your CDs are flying off the shelves aren’t they.
Second of course the next thing you think of is to sue someone. Another thing I don’t get. But as I can see you have the mentality of a person who thinks they shouldn’t have to pay for something they want and everything should be to YOUR liking and if not you should be paid, but as I said no one is forcing you to buy it in the first place. You knew when you bought the CD it wasn’t returnable it’s not like that is a new policy. Same thing with Apple Apps, software, most video games and a ton of shit you buy in this world. Know how many shitty video games I’ve bought over the years at almost $70 a pop and they have totally sucked. Know what I do, I don’t buy the second one when it comes out. I say to myself “This game sucked so bad why would I bother with the second one or third or fourth”. Or maybe I should sue EA Sports because for the last 20 years the Madden franchise has only been an incremental update of last years version and they are making me pay $70 each and every year for the same game. Maybe I should sue the UFC because I once paid $59.95 for a UFC fight and it sucked and they have them every month. Why should I pay to see a title UFC fight when I can just watch it illegally the following week. Maybe I should sue Mike Tyson because one day I paid $60 to see him fight and the fight only lasted 0.52 seconds. Or the people who paid thousands for a ring side ticket, travel plans, hotels should sue him as well. Again, just because YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE FREE or you ARE DESERVING OF SOMETHING you’re NOT. Get over it, That’s the way life goes. Sorry.
Lastly I love how everyone comes out and says “oh I’ve never downloaded anything illegally” yet illegal piracy is running wild. It must be all those “other” people right? You seriously think that coming here with your little opening statement that I think you don’t EVER download anything? You think you are owed it? What the fuck is stopping you? Don’t try to bullshit a douche, you’re not going to win and I can see through your transparent argument.
Now if you actually had any reading comprehension you’d see I already address your little tantrum in the blog itself yet you feel the need to grandstand and make your little point about “oh the music sucked!” it should be free. You are the EXACT person who I was talking about. The self righteous asshole who thinks it’s easy to make movies, music, “entertainment” and if it’s not up to YOUR standards then it should be free.
If you have a problem, with the system, the music, the movies and entertainment buy a video camera, make a movie, pay the out of pocket expenses, distribute it, market it and give it all away for free. I’ll even give you a head start on distribution it’s called YouTube.
Vote with your dollar and by NOT downloading the “crap” if you say something sucks walk away. Don’t say “well it sucks but I still want to see the movie but I’m not going to pay” if you can sit there and say I have a sanctimonious pie hole then stand by your words and stop thinking you deserve something for NOTHING. Stand by it sucking and don’t go to the shows, buy the CDs, change the radio when the songs come on. But we all know you’re not going to do that, You are going to bitch and complain how it sucks but somehow you will have the full CD on your computer or you will have watched the movie when it comes out.
You do know that opposition to SOPA isn’t exactly based on “I wanna to pirate plz!!”
And happy birthday I guess.
Yes I know that but the arguments for/against it are very weak and no one comes to the defense/opposition of it from the perspective of a realist. Everyone is yelling from the hills worst case bullshit.
I just find people’s justification for piracy absurd and have NEVER heard a valid argument to support it and I like to poke the bear because people are so emotionally invested to their entertainment they feel justified for it. Just wish someone would man up and admit they know it’s wrong and that they don’t deserve something for nothing because they feel they do.
The pirates are giving my music away for the money their pay per click ads bring in. The last time I checked I am getting 9 cents for every 60 plays on Mog, whereas the pirates get 10 cents per click on an ad dispayed on a page linking to my music in the form of torrents and rar files downloadable free. And that doen’t even consider the per month fee charged by rapidshare and others to give my music away faster. And again, my point… This is all easily found on google. go away google.
Don’t be in league with pirate theives
I vote, and I vote for only supporters of STOP ONLINE PIRACY
We need a new internet, one that protects it’s citizens from theft.
If online piracy is wrong, why did you steal the SOPA logo we designed from my web site?
